Passive Voice/Sentences

Passive voice is the subject or the sentence is neither  a do-er or a be-er but is acted upon by some other agent or by something unnamed .the passive voice does exist for a reason ,however,and its presence is not always to be despised. The passive is particularly useful (even recommended) in two situations :

1.      When it is more important to draw our attention to the person or thing acted upon:

2.      When the actor in the situation is not important

The passive voice is especially helpful in scientific or technical writing or lab reports,where the actor is not really importance.

Formula :

	Subject + be (am,are.is) + Past participle + by + Agent

 

                                                                                            

Example :  Active voice to Passive voice

1.      Av : ali reads a newspaper today

Pv : a newspaper is read by ali

2.      Av : I clean the motorcycle today

Pv : The motorcycle is cleaned by me today

3.      Av : The cat catches the mouse

Pv : The mouse is caught by the cat

4.      Av : My friend writes the letter for his darling

Pv : The letter is wrote by my friend for his darling

5.      Av : She bought the dictionary from Gunung agung last week

Pv : The dictionary was bought by her from Gunung agung last week

6.      Av : He sents the parcel to me yesterday

Pv : The parcel was sent by him to me yesterday

7.      Av : They visited me three days ago

Pv : I was visited by us three days ago

8.      Av : Dilo brought the basket to my house yesterday

Pv : The basket was brought by dilo to my house yesterday

9.      Av : Mom read the magazine in one day

Pv : The magazine was read by mom in one day

10.  Av : I will clean the house every sunday

Pv : The house will be cleaned by me every sunday

Passive to active voice

1.      Pv : His mother will be begged money by nassar

Av :Nassar will begged money to his  mother

2.      Pv : His dictionary will be taken by me next week

Av : I shall take his dictionary next week

3.      Pv : I shall be called by rio next month

Av : Rio will called me next month

4.      Pv : The box will be bought by Nia to her sister tomorrow

Av : Nia will buy the box to her sister tomorrow

5.      Pv : Tara painted the entire house The entire house was painted by tara

Av : Tara painted the entire house

6.      Pv : The baby was carried by the kangaroo in her pouch

Av : The kangaroo carried her baby  in her pouch

7.      Pv : Instructions will be given to you by the director

Av : The director will give you instructions

8.      Pv : Sugar cane is raised by some people in hawaii

Av : Some people raise sugar cane in hawaii

9.      Pv : The application for a new job was faxed by her

Av : She faxed her application for a new job

10.  Pv : The treaty is being signed by two kings

Av : The two kings are signing the treaty
